Wanderlust (Jboats, 22ft)
Wanderlust is Out on the Water Sailing’s main teaching boat located in New York Harbor. She is our primary utilized for beginner and intermediate students. Wanderlust is also used for small keel-boat performance lessons, lessons on spinnaker and racing technique, as well as for day sailing charters.

The J22 is a boat that can truly match all sailors’ ability from beginner to expert. Built in Rhode Island by Tillotson Pearson since 1983, J22s are used primarily today by day-sailors, racers, clubs and sailing schools in over 18 countries. All types of world class sailing champions and even Olympic champions have trained on J22s. Yet, they are a basic and easy to use boat known for their modest sail area and forgiving handling. We chose the J22 for its ease of use, extraordinary stability, multiple safety features and its truly comfortable cockpit.

Pearl
Wanderlust is in great shape and set up for teaching. We acquired her in Rhode Island where she spent her earlier years competitively racing before being owned and meticulously maintained by a serious sailor. She has a brand new mast, new rigging and several brand new sails. Features such as color coded lines, an easily furled jib and cockpit run halyards make her a wonderful boat to beginners learn the basics. Her multiple spinnakers, performance bearing blocks and lightweight rigging make her a rocket for those ready to take the next steps.

Beyond her full compliment of safety equipment, Wanderlust is fitted with a cooler for drinks and eats, a radio with Ipod jack and stowage compartment for your gear.

Pearl (Chantiers Beneteau First 42)
Pearl (pictured at the top of this page) is a 42' Performance Cruising sloop used by Out on the Water Sailing primarily for extended cruising classes, crewed sailing charters and adventure destination sails . Built in 1984 by the Chantiers Beneteau Yard in France (and written about in the preeminent sailing book “The World’s Best Sailboats”), the French built Beneteau “First” series from this era are known to travel across oceans quickly, comfortably and safely. The boats are still competitive in racing circuits around the world and have circumnavigated the globe as recently as the past few years.

Built in the age of “IOR” (International Offshore Rule) class designs and drawn and designed by the one of foremost 5 leading naval architects in the world, German Frers, Pearl is designed to be as comfortable inside as she is fast and fun to sail. With two private staterooms, a large salon (accommodating 4) and a full galley, Pearl is comfortable for up to 2 crew and 6 guests. Her open rich teak interior, stall shower and large berths make Pearl a truly lovely environment to spend time after a long day of sailing, touring town or playing around in the water.

Pearl
Pearl was purchased by Co-Founder Toby Stull in early 2005 after the boat had suffered several years of neglect. Pearl has undergone a painstaking meticulous five-year renovation. Upgrades and improvements include all new plumbing and electrical systems with expanded capacity, the best new modern systems, all new sails, extensive cruising oriented rigging upgrades, new electronics, extensive safety provisioning and extensive refinishing. Toby’s love of this boat can be seen in the many details of her refit.

Pearl is laid out with the private double staterooms fore and aft and a center salon that sleeps up to four in single berths. Her features include a galley that has twin sinks, a three-burner stove, refrigeration and a freezer. There is hot and cold water in the head, galley and shower. Pearl’s vast sail inventory includes a brand new mainsail, jib and spinnaker.
